Echidna
Interactive Sound Sculpture [2002]
Tine Bech & Sam Woolf
When you touch Echidna a sound emerges from the sculpture. It is made of black tangled wire and sits on a white plinth with electronics inside. Echidna (A-kid-na) is the name of an Australian hedgehog that some scientists believe has the ability to perceive electromagnetic fields. The sculpture also has this ability. When you touch Echidna, or disturb the electromagnetic field around it, a sound emerges.
